This is an original 1953 halftone print (with French caption) of a soapstone sculpture of a head. This sculpture is a Venus figurine, which are usually attributed to the Upper Paleolithic era, and found mostly in Europe. Typically, the figurines have an exaggerated feature, and are usually lacking arms, legs, or heads. If a head is present, it is usually small and devoid of emotion.
The original sculpture is currently held in the Musée d'Archéologie Nationale (Museum of National Archaeology) at the Château de Saint-Germain-en-Laye close to Paris, France (Republique Française).
