This is an original 1963 color print by Rafael Montes de Oca of a member of the Calothorax Pulcher family, known commonly as the Beautiful Hummingbird. With an average length of 94 mm., it is very similar to the Calothorax Lucifer, or the Lucifer Hummingbird, however, the males are different, having a longer tail, the feathers of which are wider and with rounded extremities instead of being narrow and pointed. The under parts of the female are gray, rather than bronze. This bird lives in south of Mexico, from the Federal District to Guerrero, Oaxaca, and Chiapas. The orchid shown is Acineta Barkeri, known commonly as Barker's Acineta, and can be found growing in the vicinity of Jalapa and Coatepec in Veracruz, Mexico.
