This is an original 1963 color print by Rafael Montes de Oca of a small group of Archilochus Alexandri, known more commonly as the Black-Chinned Hummingbird. With an average length of 81 mm., the throat of these birds is black, with a deep purple tail, with pointed feather tips, white in the female. The Black-chinned Hummingbird breeds in the United States, but has been seen as far south as the Mexican frontier states. The pictured orchid is known as Oncidium Reflexum, commonly known as the Back-Bent Oncidium. A native of the region of Cordoba and Jalapa in Veracruz, it blooms in early spring.
