This is an original 1963 color print by Rafael Montes de Oca of two members of the Lampornis Amethystinus family, more commonly known as the Cazique Hummingbird. With an average length of 110-125 mm., the throat of the male is metallic purple, while that of the female is dark brown, like the breast. The bird has white stripe behind the eye, and a very wide tail, completely black except for the lateral feathers, which are dark gray. Its geographical distribution is from Nayaris, San Luis Potosi, and Tamaulipas, in the north, to Guatemala and Honduras in the South, and in these Central American countries it is much more common than in Mexico. In winter is seeks places of low altitude to occupy. The orchid, is Odontoglossum reichenheimii, more commonly known as Reichenheim's Oncidium, and is found in the Mexican states of Mexico, Morelos, and Michoacan. It normally blooms from April to June.
