"Heliomaster Constantii"

This is an original 1963 color print by Rafael Montes de Oca of two members of the Helioaster Constantii family, more commonly known as the Constant-Star Throat Hummingbird. With an average length of 112 mm., the throat is metallic purple-red; there are two parallel whitish stripes, one behind the eye and the other on the cheek; the tail is black towards the end, but the tips of the lateral feathers are white; beak long and black. The Constant-Star Throat Hummingbird is found in the arid tropical zones of southern Mexico, including the Pacific slopes of the Sierra Madre del Sur, from Michoacan to Chiapas, and from there to parts of Guatemala. The pictured orchid, Coelia triptera, more commonly known as the Three Winged Coelia, is found in the mountains of Orizaba and Cordoba, and in Guatemala and the West Indies.
