This is an original 1963 color print by Rafael Montes de Oca of two members of the Lamprolaima Rhami family, more commonly known as the Garnet-throated Hummingbird. With an average length of 106 mm., the throat is a reddish-purple, bordered by black, the breast is dark metallic blue, with a black belly and chestnut wings. It lives in the mountains from Veracruz to Guerrero and Chiapas, in Mexico, and as far southeast as Honduras and El Salvador. The orchid is a form of Epidendrum radiatum, commonly named The Lined Petal Anacheilium, and is found in the regions of Jalapa, Cordoba, and Orizaba, in Veracruz, as well as in parts of Puebla, Oaxaca, and Chiapas, flowering in the summer months.
