This is an original 1963 color print by Rafael Montes de Oca of two members of the Heliomaster Longirostris family, known more commonly as the Long Billed Star Throat Hummingbird. With an average length of 137 mm., its crown is metallic green, with a metallic reddish-purple throat, black tail with white tips, and a long and black beak. This hummingbird is found from southern Mexico to as far south as Peru and Bolivia. The pictured orchid is Laelia Autumnalis, known commonly as the Autumn Flowering Laelia, can be found in at least 8 Mexican states, and is extremely common.
