1907 Ad Cocker Spaniels F.G. MacIntosh Franklin PA Dog - ORIGINAL CL4

This is an original 1907 black and white print ad for F.G. MacIntosh's Cocker Spaniels. This bred of dog is one of the oldest in the world. They were often referred to by Chaucer and Shakespeare between 1342 and 1616. The dog was originally bred to drive game out of heavy brush, as well as to retrieve water fowl. It is thought that Spaniels actually played a part in the separation of England from the Catholic Church when Pope Clement VIII was bit on the toe by Lord Wiltshire's cocker spaniel.
