Kate Greenaway (1846-1901)

An unintentional leader of children's fashion at the turn of the century, Kate specialized in illustrating children's books. Her subjects were most frequently young boys and girls, whom she garbed in stylized versions of late eighteenth century clothing that actually caught on in certain circles. Sadly, she passed away of breast cancer in 1901. She did leave behind a legacy: Every year, a medal in her name is awarded to an illustrator of children's book in the UK.
