1893 Wood Engraving James Gillray Political Cartoon John Bull Napoleon XDH8
"Napoleon Forty-Eight Hours After Landing" and "John Bull Offering Little Boney Fair Play"
This is an original 1893 black and white wood engraving of a political cartoon by James Gillray that humorously (and a bit gruesomely) caricatured John Bull of the United Kingdom holding the head of French Emperor, Napoleon Bonaparte aloft with a pitchfork and John Bull taunting Napoleon from across the English Channel. Never has there been such a sensitivity shown towards diplomacy.
