This is an original 1878? black and white steel engraving of the capital city and fortress of Erzeroum, or Erzurum, in the Turkish Province of Erzurum during the Russo-Turkish War. The city's Turkish defenders were under the command of Gazi Ahmed Muhtar Pasha, and while heavily fortified, the city fell to the Russians after a prolonged siege in February of 1878.
