This is an original 1921 color cover for the Illustrated World Magazine, January, 1921. This unusual image is described in an attached one-page article (please see both images). A tobogganing enthusiast with a mechanical mind equipped a toboggan with a large spiked wheel driven by a gasoline engine placed at the rear of the sled --thus eliminating the long trudge back uphill after an all-too-short exhilarating run.

CONDITION

This 90+ year old Item is rated Very Fine. Moderate aging throughout. No natural defects. Some moderate surface rub. No water damage. There are some small tears in the margin edges and general wear due to the age of the item.

Ellsworth Young

Ellsworth Young (1866-1952) was an American artist hailing from Albia, Iowa, prior to relocating to Illinois, where he received his formal art education at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Young was most recognized for his paintings and illustrations, as well as his realism style. His works primarily centered on figures, landscapes and genre subjects. YoungÕs art has been exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago and more. He was affiliated with the Chicago Society of Artists.
