Cecil Calvert Beall
Cecil Calvert Beall (1892-1967) was born in Saratoga, Wyoming and studied at the Pratt Institute, and the Art Students League. He was well known as an illustrator and much of his work appeared in The Saturday Evening Post and CollierÕs. He was also known for his portraits and one he did of President Roosevelt led to him being appointed art director for the National Democratic Party. During WWII he did a series of covers for CollierÕs that featured decorated WWII heroes. At the end of WWII, he was one of the privileged few to witness the surrender ceremony aboard the USS Missouri. His painting of the event is one of the most famous paintings of the event and considered the official one by President Harry S. Truman.PTS1A4C31 zz10000
