This is an original 1918 black and white relief line-block print of the Papal Palace in Avignon, built as a result of violent uprisings in Rome which caused Pope Clement V to flee to the safety of France. This ushered in the age of the Avignon Papacy, which would result in the Papal Schism, which would last from 1378 - 1417.
