This is an original 1937 halftone print featuring an image of Mathilda Franziska Anneke, a German feminist, editor and socialist, about 1874.

Mathilda was one of the first settlers in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In 1852, she started the first feminist journal in the United States, the Deutsche Frauen-Zeitung, published by a woman. The Annekes were vocal opponents of slavery during the American Civil War.
