Period Paper is pleased to offer rare lithographs from one of the most exclusive collections of lithographs that we have acquired in our 10 years in business. This lithograph, as with all lithographs from this collection that we will release over time, is from a very short run of lithographs produced in the mid to late 19th century. Twelve lithographs were produced for the artist after their submission, and then only enough portfolios were created so that each submitting artist received one copy, plus each member of the drawing group would receive one. It is estimated by the creators of these portfolios that a total between 50 and 100 were produced for that season of releases. These are exceptionally rare and scarce, and it is almost impossible to secure one of these individual lithographs.
Of particular interest to collectors of rare lithographs is the content of the letterpress artwork/drawing descriptions supplied by the artists. We will include this original letterpress description whenever possible, and it will be noted in the first paragraph of the listing description whether the original letterpress description will be included in the shipment, or if only the digital image of that information is available.
Each year a different subject was the focus of the contributing artists, and over the course of nearly 40 years, subjects included: remains of antiquity, ancient ecclesiastical, military, and domestic edifices; sepulchral slabs, crosses, monuments, and brasses; fonts, stained glass, tiles, and bell marks; arms and armor; costume, embroidery, and jewelry; glass, pottery, and porcelain; furniture, sculpture, and wood carvings; regalia, insignia of office, personal decorations, and badges of dignity and authority; illuminations from ancient MSS; copies of rare prints and portraits; seals, medals, coins; heraldry; matters relating to state or ceremony; ancient games, sports, and customs; architectural illustrations of private properties, public buildings, businesses, and hotels; incidents of travel, menus, programs for concerts, private theatricals, and more.
We have more than 800 individual, unique lithographs to release from these drawing groups, and we will release several small groups each week. The individual link shown below that leads you to other items in this collection, will only bring up a single release. If you wish to see ALL items released from all of these collections, simply go to our eBay store and do a search for zz* (that's a zz followed by an asterisk) and this will return all of the available releases. Check back once a week to see the newest collections added.
