This is an original 1894 black and white heliogravure, engraved by Marc Antonio Raimondi after Raphael, of Lucretia, the legendary woman of Rome during Caesar Augustus' reign who was believed to have been raped by Augustus' son which drove her to suicide. Her suicide was said to have led the revolution to overthrow monarchy and establish the Roman Republic.
