Waldo Peirce

Waldo Peirce (1884-1970) was a native of Bangor, Maine, prior to relocating to New York and then Newburyport, Massachusetts. Peirce received his formal art education at the Art Students League of New York, as well as at the Academie Julian. He is most known for his Plein Air paintings, printmaking, childrenÕs literature illustrations, graphic art design and easel paintings, as well as his impressionism, modernism and realism styles. PeirceÕs works primarily centered on the subjects of children, marine and nautical, sporting events, figures, portraits, streetscapes, winterscapes, waterfowl, genre, sports figures and coastal views. His art has been exhibited at the International Carnegie Gallery, the Corcoran Gallery of Washington, D. C., the Art Institute of Chicago, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Salons of America, the Society of Independent Artists and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Peirce was affiliated with the America Association of Painters and Sculptors, the WPA Federal Arts Project, the Society of Independent Artists and the Salons of America. Later, he served as an instructor at the Art Students League of New York. Peirce was also a LIFE Magazine featured artist.
