This is an original 1942 halftone print of Captain John Paul Jones with a hand gun to a sailors head. The caption writes, "Jones never surrendered. This old print in the Grenville Kane collection shows the enraged captain threatening a sailor who dared strike his colors." Jones was born in Scotland and moved to Virginia when he was a teenager, and became the first naval hero during the American Revolutionary War. He is sometimes known as the "Father of the American Navy."
