Founded by ƒdouard Charton, the first issue was published on March 4, 1843. The magazine ceased publication in 1944. The illustrated pieces represent some of the finest quality printing from that eraÐÐusing as many as a dozen unique inks, metallic inks, emboss and deboss dies, and they were printed on a variety of the finest textured and untextured papers. Edouard Manet (1832-1883) was a French impressionist painter, hailing from Paris. He received his formal art education through the studio of Thomas Couture. ManetÕs main artistic influences included Goya, Frans Hals, Monet, Morisot and Velazquez. ManetÕs art primarily centered on nudes, social class activities, still life, Parisian cafŽ scenes, figures, genre, flowers, and war subjects. His works have been exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago, the National Gallery in Berlin, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Salon des Refuses, the Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D. C. and many more.
