This is an original 1937 halftone print of a piece of a tanker being reconstructed at Sparrows Point, Maryland. The area is owned by Bethlehem Steel and is known for its shipbuilding and steel making. Shown is a piece of a Socony gasoline tanker whose bottom plates were eroded. These sections were welded and riveted together to add more life to the $550,000 ships.
