1939 Tipped-In Print Last England Ford Madox Brown Emigrants Ship Costume XAN3

This is an original 1939 tipped-in color print of Ford Madox Brown's The Last of England, which depicts two emigrants leaving their homeland behind to start a new life abroad. For unclear reasons, he deliberately chose to use emigrants who looked resigned and hopeless instead of those who were eager to begin afresh in a foreign land.
