This is an original 1947 two-page monochrome in-text lithograph set (one double-sided page) of famous French explorer, Jacques Cartier. During his numerous voyages, Cartier explored much of the area along the St. Lawrence River in the modern province of Quebec, Canada.

Thornton Oakley

(1881-1953) Thornton Oakley was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in architecture. He also studied illustration with Howard Pyle. He was best known for his depiction of industrial subjects. OakleyÕs work appeared in numerous books and magazines, including Harper's, The Century, Collier's, and Everybody's Magazine. His paintings are in the collections of many museums.
