This is an original 1870 lithograph that shows architectural elements of Italian religious sculptures including: Creation of Woman and Fall--Stone Reliefs on the Cathedral at Modena; Adoration of the Magi--Stone Relief on S. Andrea at Pistoja; Assumption of Elias--Wood Sculpture on S. Sabina at Rome; Christ Offered in the Temple--from the Bronze Door of S. Paoli fuori le Mura; Christ's Sermon on the Mount--Marble Relief on the Baptistery at Pisa; Christ on the Cross and the Adoration of the Magi--Silverwork on an Altar at Citta di Castello; and by Nicola Pisano: Adoration of the Magi, on the Pulpit of the Baptistery at Pisa, Birth of Christ, on the Pulpit in the Cathedral of Siena, and Miracle of St. Dominicus, on the Arca di S. Domegico at Bologna.
This lithograph is from a collection detailing the history and beauty of architecture from prehistoric times through the 1800s. Due to the heavy stock of the paper, the original plate emboss can still be viewed in the margins of most lithographsÑa rare and highly desirable feature of this art. Our digital capture process enhances the visibility and tone of the foxing; however, in the original pieces the foxing, especially along the edges, is less pronounced. Virtually all foxing is restricted to the outermost margin and would be eliminated when framed.
