Life Savers. Life Savers brand candy was invented in 1912, by candy manufacturer Clarence Crane, who named them for their distinctive ring shape. After registering the trademark, Crane sold the rights to the candy to Edward John Noble in 1913, who did away with the original cardboard packaging and began wrapping the rolls in tin foil. The first flavor of Life Savers was Pep-O-Mint, the iconic five-flavor roll was introduced in 1935. After being a subsidiary of Beech-Nut, Nabisco, and Kraft Foods, Life Savers was purchased by the Wrigley Company in 2004.
