This is an original 1899 black and white photogravure of a painting by William de Leftwich Dodge that portrays Leonore holding a gun to Don Pizzaro, (the governor of the prison), in Act II, Scene III from Fidelio, or "Leonore, The Triumph of Married Love", a German opera by Ludwig van Beethoven.
