The Manet Collection As Interpreted by Pablo Picasso (1962)
From 1959 to 1961 Pablo Picasso worked on a series of drawings and paintings that were inspired by the famous oil painting by Édouard Manet "Le Déjeuner sur l'herbe" ("The Luncheon on the Grass") created in 1862-1863. Manet's painting featured a female nude figure and a partially dressed bather at an outdoor picnic with two fully dressed men. Picasso offers his interpretations of this bucolic scene (which was considered quite risque in 1863) in our collection of original photolithographs from 1962.
