This is an original 1959 color print ad for the Caterpillar Tractor Company of Peoria, Illinois.

Interesting Fact:

Benjamin Holt of the Holt Manufacturing Company (formerly Stockton Wheel Company) was founded in Stockton, California in 1883. This company was responsible for the famous "Caterpillar" machinery. Though Holt did not trademark "Caterpillar" until 1911, the origins of the machine dates back to 1904 when Charles Clements, a photographer for the Holt Company, witnessed Mr. Holt testing his first operable track-laying machine, which was forced to trudge through the moist soil of the San Joaquin Valley. Clements observed the machine crawling like a "caterpillar" through the wet farmlands; Holt jumped on the simile and said "Caterpillar it is. That's the name for it!" Thus, the "Caterpillar" reign was officially born.
