This is an original 1899 two-color cover for the Harvard Lampoon. It features the Lampy the Jester sitting on a winged horse, holding up a shield inscribed with the motto Vanitas (Latin, meaning "empty"), a parody of Harvard's motto, Veritas, or "Truth". The inner panel is a nod to St. Valentine's Day and has a heart containing a portrait of a woman, the whole thing being shot through with an arrow and tied with a bow.CONDITION
