This is an original 1906 halftone print of the battlements of the Canyon's rim. Battlements are a defensive architecture in which portions have been cut out to allow for the discharge of arrows. These battlements are in the Great Plains of America. The Great Plains are a broad expanse of flat land, mostly grassland and prairie, that lies between the Mississippi River and the Rocky Mountains. This area also refers to the land used by the Plains Indians.
