"Fantassin Regulier d'Abdel-Kader."
This is an original 1843 hand-colored woodblock print of an Algerian regular infantryman of Abdel-Kader (Abd al-Qadir).
Period Paper is pleased to offer an exceptionally rare and beautiful collection of original woodblock prints of ethnic costumes. These gorgeous prints date from the mid-19th century. They are hand-colored and embellished with gum arabic (a technique used to enhance and preserve hand-colored prints in special collections from this era). Prints like these are highly collectible not only for their subject matter, but different from the more typical hand-colored or tinted botanical prints, the expensive inks used for these prints are especially vivid and rich in tone. (The color is actually more vivid than it appears in our digital capture.) The border around each image is slightly larger than what is shown in the digital image. However, we wanted to show you the actual image up close and the dimensions provided next to the "Size" above indicate the size of the entire print.CONDITION
This 168+ year old Item is rated Very Fine. No creases. No tears. No water damage. There are some light aging and foxing marks in the margins --please see image.
