This is an original 1871 black and white woodcut of the atrium of the House of Pansa located in Pompeii, Italy. The structure functioned as a hotel of sorts, offering rooms available to rent to
inquilini or "lodgers." This clearly was more akin to a five-star establishment than a Motel 6.
