This is an original 1877 black and white wood engraving of Charles Lomenie de Brienne, a politician, churchman, and Minister of Finance to French King Louis XVI. He was arrested and imprisoned in November 1793 amidst the chaos of the French Revolution. He died in prison by either a stroke or because he was poisoned.
