This is an original 1878 black and white wood engraving of the stupa of Sanchi, India, which is the oldest stone structure of the country, and was built in the 3rd century BC. The village is located in the Raisen district of Madhya Pradesh, and is the location of various Buddhist monuments. The site features four different ornately carved gateways, each depicting a narrative, and a balustrade which surrounds the stupa.
