This is an original 1883 black and white photolithograph of "Hudibras's First Adventure", the third in a series of twelve engravings by William Hogarth (1697-1764) that illustrated Samuel Butler's mock heroic narrative poem entitled, "Hudibras". This piece portrays Sir Hudibras and his squire Ralpho squaring off against a riotous rabble of "bear baiters".
