This is an original 1890 black and white wood engraving of a view of ancient Bethany, near Jerusalem in Israel. It is said that this holy village housed the tomb of Lazarus, as well as served as home to Mary, Martha and Simon the Leper, according to the New Testament. Bethany also lodged Jesus after his entry into Jerusalem.
