This is an original 1899 black and white halftone print of the Golden Monastery in Burma, also known as Shwenandaw Kyaung Temple. Originally built in the mid-1800's this building is presented in it's third incarnation and location. The first time this building was erected, known as Mya Nan San Kyaw, it was under the rule of Burmese King Mindon in Amarapura, however, when King Thibaw ascended to the throne he ordered the building dismantled and rebuilt on Mandalay Palace grounds. However, that would be a short lived relocation as Thibaw thought it to be haunted by King Mindon and had it relocated once more outside of the palace walls close to Mandalay Hill; a move that would save the structure from destruction decades later when the Palace was bombarded during World War II.
