This is an original 1901 black and white halftone print of figures from the Passion Play as performed by the people of Oberammergau in Bavaria, Germany. This city is famous for its Passion Play that has been faithfully performed every ten years since 1634 as a promise to God after being spared from the Bubonic Plague. The range and scope of this performance is monumental. Every member of the Bavarian community participates 2,000 of which are actors. Since the 17th Century the play has only been canceled twice and postponed once.
