This is an original 1905 color print of a walkway at the Villa dell'Ombrellino which is located near to Florence, Italy. The villa was originally built in 1372 and is known for an unusual garden embellishment which is in the shape of a large metal umbrella that the villa is named after.

Goff, Robert Charles

Robert Charles Goff (1837-1922) was an Irish printmaker and painter. He became a soldier at eighteen, but left the Coldstream Guards after he became a colonel in order to concentrate on his artwork. He learned the process of etching from a fellow officer and etched over 200 plates. He traveled to Britain, Italy, Egypt, and Japan in pursuit of new subject matter and often worked in watercolors. He eventually settled into a villa in Florence, Italy. Goff later died in La Tour-de-Peitz, Switzerland.
