Post Office Puzzles
This is an original 1907 6 page article (four pages, two being double-sided) by Helen Corinne Gillenwater on the difficulties in deciphering illegibility, foreign languages and other "code" mailing addresses. An amusing fact about this article is that the author is almost outraged at the fact that it takes EIGHT men to identify all of the skewed addresses that come through NEW YORK CITY. I cannot imagine how many it takes today!!! It is also interesting to see the various letters that came through the Postal system during this time period, and what people must have thought America was like. Please see additional images.
