"The Battle of Stone's River or Murfreesboro"

This is an original 1910 two-color lithographed map of the American Civil War Battle of Stone's River, also known as Murfreesboro. One of the largest battles in the Western Theater of the War, Union forces repulsed three Confederate assaults between December 31st, 1862 and January 2nd, 1863. While the battle was a stalemate and resulted in very high casualties for both sides, the South's losses ensured Union control of central Tennessee, as well as providing a morale boost after the North's humiliating defeat at Fredricksburg in Virginia.
