This luxury resort was originally erected around 1884 by German architects Friedrich Ebert and Johann Friedrich Henkenhaf. After fire damage, the resort was rebuilt around 1886. Many kings and heads of state frequented the resort, including the Rolling Stones, which was the last performance at the hotel. The resort closed due to disrepair in 1969, however, in 1975, it was saved from demolition by being listed as a historical building. Today, the seaside resort is entirely renovated into the Steigenberger Kurhaus Hotel, which is affiliated with the Steigenberger Hotel Group.
