Interestingly, Siddal, a working class woman, was not considered beautiful for her time. Often, the artists who painted her idealized her looks. She, however, painted herself much more realistically. It is said that, at one point, Siddal and Rossetti became romantically involved and resided together in Chatham Place. As their romance dwindled and after Siddal gave birth to a stillborn baby, Rossetti found Siddal dead from either an accidental overdose of opium or from suicide. Siddal was just 32 years young.
