This is an original 1922 sepia rotogravure of the U-53 submarine, the German U-65 and German submarines washed up on the rocks of Falmouth, England. The top image shows the U-53 submarine in the harbor of Newport, Rhode Island, where it appeared in 1916. It delivered letters to the United States (which had not entered war yet), and the day after sank six Allied ships.
