Period Paper is thrilled to present a colorful collection of photolithographs from 1923. The images are illustrations from the opera Polly by John Gay. The opera tells the tale of Polly PeachumÕs adventure in the West Indies. She searches for Macheath who becomes executed before Polly decides to marry the Indian prince Cawwawkee. Polly was censored during itÕs birth but was produced after GayÕs death.
This piece was illustrated by Nicholson, William.
