This is an original 1926 halftone print of Sir William Phips, first royal governor of Massachusetts, and official treasure hunter. His major find came off the coast of Hispanolia (now Haiti and the Dominican Republic), when his crew uncovered a Spanish wreck filled with treasure. It was then that Phips made the best decision of his career--He promised every man on his crew a share, and deliberately made it back with stopping at any unfamiliar ports. No mutiny, lots of treasure and a happy crew.
