This is an original 1927 black and white halftone print of an ancient Roman bas-relief sculptures from the altar at the Temple of Neptune by Domitius Ahenobarbus that depict the sacrifice of bulls, sheep, and pigs in honor of Mars, the God of War, and the discharge of legionary soldiers. The bottom photograph is a bas-relief from a funeral cista that portrays a procession of Roman knights (equites, iuvenes) on horseback.
