This is an original 1953 black and white print ad for Parker Brothers' Monopoly board game, as well as its other manufactured games. The Monopoly board game was originally founded by Elizabeth (Lizzie) Magie Phillips, who created the game in attempts to explain the theory of Henry George's single tax, and demonstrate the negative effect of land concentration in private monopolies. In 1941, the licensed manufacturer of the game John Waddington and the British Secret Service created a "special edition" of the game for WWII POWs. The games, which were distributed by invented charities created by the secret service, had real money, maps and compasses hidden in the game for escape purposes.
