This is an original 1963 color print by Rafael Montes de Oca of a a small group of Calothorax Lucifer, commonly known as the Lucifer Hummingbird. With an average length of 94 mm, the throat of the male is purple, with the lateral feathers considerably lengthened. With a forked, tail, there is a small white patch behind the eye. Dwelling in the southern United States, and as far south as the Mexican states of Guerrero and Chiapas, it is virtually absent from the coastal strips of Mexico. The pictured orchid is Odontoglossum maculatum, commonly known as the Spotted Rhynchostele.
