"Anthracothorax Prevostii"

This is an original 1963 color print by Rafael Montes de Oca of a family of Anthracothorax Prevostii, more commonly known as the Prevost Mango Hummingbird. With an average length of 106 mm., the males of this species have a blackish colored throat area, with a blue-green breast, which turns metallic bronze and green. The wings and central part of the tail are black, but the lateral tail-feathers are dark violet. The beak is black, long, and somewhat curved. The females have the central area of the under areas white, as well as the throat, which has a vertical black band, reaching to the breast, and sometimes to the abdomen. The tail is bronze or bluish. This bird lives mostly the northeast Mexico, as well as Costa Rica, and even so far south as Venezuela.
